Kajol returns in a powerful avatar in the upcoming horror film Maa, releasing on 27th June 2025. This is not a regular emotional drama but a chilling mythological horror rooted in Indian beliefs. Directed by Vishal Furia, who earlier made Chhorii, the film blends supernatural horror with divine feminine power. Kajol plays a mother who finds herself in a haunted village after her husband’s mysterious death. As she tries to protect her young daughter from dark forces, she discovers an ancient curse that targets little girls.
Strange disappearances, eerie rituals, and a demonic presence haunt the land. The story takes a gripping turn as Kajol’s character transforms into a fierce Kaali-like form to battle the evil. With terrifying visuals and emotional depth, Maa explores the power of motherhood beyond life and death. The trailer reveals haunting sequences involving a living tree, possession scenes, and divine rage.
Kajol revealed that shooting in Ramoji Film City was so intense that she actually felt haunted. The film also stars Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and child actor Kherin Sharma. Made with a mid-size budget of ₹40–50 crore, the film is backed by Jio Studios and Ajay Devgn Films. The music is intense and devotional with tracks like “Kali Shakti” already trending. It will release in Hindi and dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali.
With a fresh take on horror and Indian mythology, the film is part of a larger supernatural universe connected to Shaitaan. Audiences are expecting both fear and emotion in equal measure. Kajol’s performance as a divine protector-mother is already being praised as one of her boldest roles. Maa promises a unique blend of horror, mythology, and maternal power, making it one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
